S.W. King Intermediate School offers Honors programs for English, social studies, science, and math. Students may be accepted into one or more of the Honors courses. The differentiated curricula focus on higher-order thinking skills of creating, evaluating, and analyzing. Students are expected to complete various group and independent research projects and possibly participate in academic competitions.

All students interested in King’s Honors Program must apply and complete the screening process. Students may screen for Honors Math, Honors English, or both. Social Studies and Science eligibility are determined by the English/Language Arts screener.
HONORS REGISTRATION FOR SY 2025-2026 IS OPEN.
To sign up to screen for King’s Honors program, please complete the online registration form.
Honors Testing will be conducted IN PERSON at King Intermediate on the following dates ONLY:
Tuesday, Feb. 11 (6:00 - 8:00 pm) – either math or English
Thursday, Feb. 13 (6:00 - 8:00 pm) – either math or English
Saturday, Feb. 15 (8:00 am – 12:00 pm) – can do math and/or English
The instructions for registration and screening are as follows:
1. Click KING HONORS SCREENING REGISTRATION to register and sign up for test sessions.
(Math and English testing must be completed in separate test sessions.)
2. You will receive a copy of your responses to the registration google form. This will be your confirmation of registration for Honors screening. Please record your testing dates in your calendar then report to King Intermediate, room E-8, for testing on your scheduled date(s)/time(s).
3. Bring the following items and documents to your testing appointment:
· #2 pencils
· Corded headphones/earphones (not bluetooth)
· Copy of most recent report card (this school year, Q2)
· Copy of last year’s (2023-2024) end of year report card
· Copy of last year’s (2023-2024) SBA score reports for English and math
* i-Ready winter diagnostic scores will requested from your child's current school
You may also scan and email gwynne.lees@k12.hi.us copies of your documents by Feb. 10, 2025.
4. At testing, applicants will complete the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) (verbal and quantitative only) and a math and/or writing prompt.
5. Please ask your child's current English and/or Math teachers to complete a recommendation form. We will email a link to the recommendation form to your child's current teachers (the names that you provided on the registration form). Teacher recommendations are due by Feb. 14, 2025.
6. Decision letters will be emailed to parents in early April 2025. If you do not have an email address, please bring a self-addressed stamped envelope to testing.
